As Gladys wakes up, she looks around and sees the setting from the perspective of a camera. Puig titles this and the following passages as “sensations” experienced by the different characters. However, in what Puig describes as “Sensations experienced by Gladys in the presence of Leo and María Esther,” we find a text which has no relationship with sensations. Rather, it resembles a film plot being remembered or retold. The text is an objective description of a sci-fi setting, including precise details and background music as if it were a film script:

Landscape: a luminous, nocturnal sky, in a tone similar to the aquamarine, that is, blue and transparent […] Unusually bright stars are in the foreground, there is no moon. The earth shows no sign of life, a granite plateau and extinct volcanoes. […] The total calm of the landscape is accentuated by string music, mainly violins. The tune is catchy, romantic, but with a background of dark foreboding.10
